Summer Racing 2018
For Summer 2019, URBC is offering training and racing opportunities to athletes in the Bucks County, Northeast Philadelphia, and Princeton areas.
Purpose: For Summer 2019, URBC will again offer a racing program for rowers with at least one full season of rowing experience. The purpose is to allow athletes who wish to improve their skills and racing experience outside of the school year, particularly by training and racing in small boats and new lineups.
Athletes are expected to be mature "self-starters" who will keep in shape beyond the normal practice times and make sure they are available for all the practices leading up their races.
Rowers DO NOT need to be students at HGP or VJM - anyone is welcome to join as long as they meet the age and experience requirements.
Method: URBC believes that small boat training and a focus on technique that equals our focus on fitness is the best way to develop as a rower. While we are competitive and select the fastest possible boat combinations for racing, we believe that winning races begins and ends with fast, confident rowers. Each athlete will get to spend significant amounts of time in small boats - singles, doubles and pairs - and will have the opportunity to race in them as well. Our small numbers also ensure every rower gets extensive technical coaching as well.
Dates: Weeks of June 11 - July 21; not all athletes need attend all weeks.
Location: Core Creek Park, Langhorne, PA
Practices: Monday - Friday, 6-8pm
Focus: Small boats. Singles, doubles, pairs, fours and quads.
Racing: Cromwell Cup, Boston, MA (July 8), Philadelphia Youth Regatta (July 21)
- Every athlete will be given the opportunity to race multiple times at each regatta.
Who can apply: Any boy or girl with one full year of competitive rowing experience born in 2001 or later. The most important attribute is a willingness to work hard, commitment to every practice and the races, and a sincere desire to get better.
Travel: We will most likely leave on Saturday morning, July 7, for Boston. The race is Sunday, and we will return on Sunday evening. Transportation is not provided; hotel is.
Coaches: J. D. Bridges. Click here for a bio of Coach Bridges. Other coaches TBA.
